Viola odorata L.

Flora Europaea

the original Linnean specimen

A common species in mesic grasslands across almost whole Europe, commonly also cultivated in different varieties and present as a ruderal. Avoid the frequent confusion with its close relative Viola suavis M. Bieb. which has a similar ecology and only subterraneous stolons, differently colored not odorant flowers (white spots at the basal parts of the petals larger and clearly delimited; the veins on the petals not darker colored than the petal).

Cluj-Napoca, Cluj county, Fantanele str. 30, in the park west from the building of Chemistry Institute and Faculty of Environmental Science and Engineering, 31st of March 2011.
